Description

Ere the wind bare, that scent of childhood summer sweets and bade you nap under yonder boughs.  Know you traveler beware, he that under Ghoul Maple sleeps shall never rouse.”Beyonder Poem

Resembling the vine maple (sometimes known as Asian maple) having pink seeds with green vein-y wings this tree emits a powerful pheromone that temps passers-by to take a nap; and as the prey sleeps the little “seeds” detach and resemble mosquitoes.  They swarm and quickly drain the victim of all blood.

There are rumors that some vine maples can uproot themselves and move around at human speeds.

Combat:

Anyone that approaches within 100 feet of this tree gets a whiff of a powerful perfume that temps them draw nearer, this is an Intellect attack at its level-1.  Failing this, the victim(s) draw closer and must resist a final Intellect attack, this time even level.  Failure means they lay down and are drained of all blood in 3 rounds. If anyone remains awake they can try to save the victim by attacking the relatively weak tree. (The first round victims lose their Intellect Pool, next Speed, then Might.)

Once exposed to a particular Ghoul Maple’s scent the person is immune (but not to another different Ghoul Maple).

Use:

A powerful “trap” encounter.

Loot:

Fifty percent chance of 1d4 random cyphers.
